Google parent Alphabet to axe 12,000 jobs worldwide

Google parent Alphabet plans to cut 12,000 jobs globally, its chief executive said in a staff memo, though added that the move “weighs heavily” on him.

“We’ve undertaken a rigorous review across product areas and functions to ensure that our people and roles are aligned with our highest priorities as a company,” Sundar Pichai said on Friday.

“The roles we’re eliminating reflect the outcome of that review,” he added. “They cut across Alphabet, product areas, functions, levels and regions.”
