The latest Indian cricket star, Shubman Gill, is a right-handed opening batsman for Punjab in domestic play. He represents India in an international tournament. Gill, the youngest cricketer to score a double century, has our hearts and screens filled with love and prayers.

On January 18, 2023, he became the sixth Indian batsman to reach a double century when he struck a double century against New Zealand.  Gill maintained his excellent form, slamming 208 off 149 balls in the first One-Day International (ODI) between India and New Zealand in Hyderabad after India won the toss and elected to bat first.

Early Years

Shubman Gill was born on September 8, 1999, in Fazilka, Punjab. His family possessed some agricultural areas. His father, Lakhwinder Singh, a farmer, had a desire of playing cricket but was unable to realise it. Instead, he wanted to prepare Gill to be a strong cricket player. He had seen his son’s cricketing aptitude at an early age and was pleased about the opportunity to help him grow.

Gill received some instruction from his school before attending the Punjab Cricket Association Academy.

On his Punjab Under-16 state debut, he achieved an undefeated double century in the Vijay Merchant Trophy. In the 2014 Punjab Inter-District Under-16 competition, he hit 351 runs and shared a 587-run opening partnership with Nirmal Singh.

Domestic Career: Gill made his List A debut for Punjab in the 2016-17 Vijay Hazare Trophy, batting one down. Later, in the 2017-18 Ranji Trophy against Bengal, he batted as an opener and scored his first half-century before moving it up the next game with a first-class century against Services.

In August of that year, he was named captain of the India Blue side for the 2019-20 Duleep Trophy. Gill was named captain of India C for the 2019-20 Deodhar Trophy in October 2019. In November 2019, he headed a side in the league as the youngest cricketer ever.

He smashed Virat Kohli’s record of 21 years and 124 days established in the 2009-10 season, although Gill was just 20 years and 57 days old.

Gill quit the Kolkata Knight Riders before the 2022 IPL auction and was chosen by the newly formed Gujarat Titans franchise. Gill was afterwards recruited by Glamorgan as their overseas player for the remainder of the 2022 County Championship season in September 2022.

He made his debut against Worcestershire. Gill’s international career began in February 2017, when he was a member of India’s U-19 squad that defeated England’s U-19 team in a series.

In December 2017, he was named vice-captain of India’s side for the 2018 Under-19 Cricket World Cup.

Later, on January 31, 2019, he made his One Day International (ODI) debut against New Zealand in the fourth ODI of the series at Hamilton’s Seddon Park. He was named to India’s Test team again in February 2020, this time for a series against New Zealand.

Gill made his Test debut for India against Australia on December 26, 2020, assisting India in a comeback victory in the second game of the series. In the fourth Test at the Gabba, he made 91 runs to help India win the series.

The Century Record

Gill scored a double century for an Indian side in a first-class match in August 2019 at the age of 19. Gill scored an ODI century for India against Zimbabwe in Harare on August 22, 2022.

Gill scored his first Test century against Bangladesh on December 16, 2022, before being dismissed for 110 runs. Gill made his Twenty20 debut against Sri Lanka on January 3, 2023. He scored seven runs in five balls.

Personal Life

Lakhwinder Singh and Keart Gill gave birth to Shubman Gill. He was born in the village of Chak Jaimal Singh Wala, also known as Chak Khere Wala, in the Punjabi district of Fazilka, near Jalalabad. His name is Shaheen Gill, Shubman Gill’s sister. Gill’s father claims that he has had a lifelong interest in farming from his childhood. Shubman Gill has a strong emotional attachment with hometown.
