In a 10-round fight, Indian boxer Urvashi Singh defeated Thailand’s national champion Thanchanok Phanan to win the WBC Asia Silver and International Super Bantamweight titles in Colombo.
On Sunday night, Thanchanok (12-5, 6 KOs) was defeated by Urvashi (10-3, 6 KOs) through a unanimous decision.
Following a few strategic early rounds, Urvashi began to exert control over the fight by the fourth round with her constant jabbing and combinations to the body of the opponent.
Thanchanok made an effort to fight back, but Urvashi was considerably more skilled, swift, and powerful in her strikes.
“I couldn’t have envisioned accomplishing any of this without the help of my DJMC Events promotional team, which is led by Mr. Rozairo,” the woman stated.
Currently, I hold the titles of WBC Asia Continental and International Champion.
Sarjubala Devi wins by a 2nd round stoppage
A flyweight matchup between Khwunchit Khunya (4-12) of Thailand and former amateur youth world champion Sarjubala Devi (2-0) ended in a stoppage due to injury in the second round.
It appeared as though the two seasoned fighters would fight evenly, but a close call left Khunya holding her left shoulder and gasping in agony, pleading with the referee, Ajay Salvi, to call time on the battle.
Following an injury layoff of more than six months, Sarjubala entered this match.
“We had a strong start to the match for both of us, and by the second round, I had warmed up and was finding my rhythm.” Even though I was gaining ground, boxing is a contact sport. “However, I do feel horrible for her since I really wanted to win,” she said.
Avikas Tarachand too wins
In the fourth round of a fiercely contested lightweight match, Indian boxer Avikas Tarachand (1-3) stopped Sri Lankan amateur national champion Lasindu Eranda.
Lasindu, who won a bronze medal at the 2019 South Asian Games, was taken aback by Tarachand’s aggressiveness from the first bell. With a barrage of counterpunches in the second round, the seasoned Sri Lankan came back strongly.
However, Avikas returned to form in rounds three and four, landing powerful punches that compelled the referee to call time on the fight.
Sachin Dekwal suffers brutal KO Loss
In the seventh round of his title defense against Filipino boxer Jules Victoriano, reigning WBC Asian continental champion Sachin Dekwal (11-1) was knocked out (11-5).
Victoriano now holds the title of WBC Asian continental light weight champion after this victory.
