The ODI World Cup will be contested in India in 2023, while Pakistan will host the Asia Cup. As a result of the current standoff between the two nations, the Indian team will not travel Pakistan.

The India and Pakistan Cricket Boards have been at odds since a remark by BCCI Secretary Jay Shah in October of last year. While Pakistan has been awarded the hosting of the Asia Cup in 2023, Jai Shah has stated unequivocally that the Indian team would not visit Pakistan. After this, the then-PCB chairman Rameez Raja threatened to boycott the ODI World Cup in India in 2023. Rameez’s government then shifted, and the PCB was granted control of a panel led by Najam Sethi.

Even still, the problem persisted. Najam Sethi also made several such remarks, which fueled the debate. A meeting was also convened in Bahrain in early February, but no conclusions were reached. The next ICC conference will be place in Dubai from March 18 to 20. Previously, Najam Sethi has now begun a new security thread. He claims that the Indian team is being barred entry into Pakistan on security grounds. Similarly, the Pakistani squad may experience security challenges in India. He has stated that he will bring this up again at the next meeting.

In a news conference, Najam Sethi stated that when all of the teams arrive in Pakistan, there will be no security issues. Why, therefore, is the Indian team concerned about security? If we also declare that we are concerned about the safety of sending our squad to India for the World Cup. I will bring this up. We categorically oppose India’s action in this subject. We want to host the Asia Cup. Remember, this is not just about the Asia Cup or the ODI World Cup, but also about the Champions Trophy, which will be contested in Pakistan in 2025.

Najam Sethi did not stop here, he further claimed that, I have also received advice from the government in this subject. We believe that if we do what our Chief (Head of Government, Prime Minister) says. If he says that even if the Indian team does not come to Pakistan for the Asia Cup, we must travel to India to compete in the World Cup, we will do the same. I couldn’t do anything about it. But if they reject, we would be in the same situation as India.
